Privacy Policy

DRAFT — written to reflect how Carver actually handles data. Have it reviewed by a lawyer and fill in the bracketed fields before publishing.
Carver is built privacy‑first. Your drives are yours. This policy explains, in plain language, what stays on your device, what leaves it only with your consent, and what we never do.
The short version
- Your drives are stored locally on your device by default.
- We don't require an account to record and review drives.
- We don't sell your data. We don't run ads. We don't use third‑party trackers.
- Data only leaves your device when you choose to share it (e.g. exporting a share card, or opting in to a leaderboard).
Data stored on your device
Recorded drives — GPS route, speed, motion (G‑force), and, if you connect an OBD‑II adapter, engine data — are saved on your device. Carver does not upload them automatically.
Device permissions we request
- Location — to record your route and speed while driving. Requested when you start a drive.
- Motion & fitness — to measure G‑force and orientation.
- Bluetooth — only if you choose to connect an OBD‑II adapter.
- Camera / Photos — only if you add a photo to a drive or save a share card.
You can decline any permission and still use the rest of the app.
Optional account & cloud features (opt‑in)
- Account (optional): you may add an email to create an account. We store your email and the profile you set (handle, display name, car) to sync your identity across devices and enable the features below. No account is needed to record and review drives.
- Leaderboards (if you submit a drive): we store only the stats and a display name you provide — never your GPS route or location — to show rankings. You choose which drives to submit, and you can remove them.
- Public profile / shared drives (if you make them public): the stats you choose — never your GPS route — become viewable by anyone with the link. Set them private to remove them.
- Private cloud backup (if you turn it on): your full drives, including the GPS route, are copied to cloud storage that only you can read, so a new device can restore them. This is the only feature that stores your route off your device, and it stays private to you. Turn it off to stop; delete backed‑up drives anytime.
- iCloud sync (if offered): drives sync between your own Apple devices via Apple's iCloud. Carver never sees them — Apple's encryption applies.
- Crash reports: if enabled, diagnostic crash data is scrubbed of location and personal information before being sent, so we can fix bugs.
What we never do
- Sell or rent your personal data.
- Share your location with advertisers or data brokers.
- Track you across other apps or websites.
Children
Carver is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date.
